Say hello to the fall issue. The secret theme for this issue is badass women. There‘s Mara Balagtas racing across the Sahara with no GPS, just a map. Cynthia Rowley traveling to far-flung places like Senegal, Russia, and Iceland, even if she only has five days, making the most of the rare overlap time she and her family share. Photographer Elizabeth Daniels traveled solo to Brazil to hunt for the lesser-known architectural gems of Oscar Niemeyer with an expert she met on Instagram sending her guidance along the way via WhatsApp. And Christy Turlington Burns, their cover star, is one of their favorite badasses. In 2010 she started Every Mother Counts, and since then, has been tirelessly devoted to improving access to maternal health care around the world. She is also a dear friend, letting them photograph her on her real vacation in Greece, straight out of the water, with no hair or makeup, just the true beauty she is.
