Yolo Journal – Issue 23

YOLO Journal is an independent American travel magazine founded by Yolanda Edwards. Built around photography, personal recommendations and a deliberately selective approach to travel, it focuses less on what is new than on places with character — independent hotels, overlooked destinations, local institutions and the kind of addresses people pass on to friends.

Issue 23, Fall/Winter 2026, unfolds across seasons and timelines. The cover story travels to British Columbia, where sea swimming and glacier hiking can be part of the same day, while another journey crosses Bolivia’s Altiplano from vast salt flats to high-altitude lakes.

Other destinations connect the present with places that seem to hold onto another time: the tiled domes of Uzbekistan, Porto’s weathered pastel façades and the primordial landscapes and trees of Socotra. New York appears through the photographs of Magnum photographer Ernst Haas, whose images of the city in the 1950s still feel strikingly modern.

The issue also visits Bequia, Puglia, Istanbul and Gstaad, alongside the smaller details that make up the YOLO way of travelling — including the bag and slippers the editors are currently taking on the road. Together, Issue 23 moves between ambitious journeys and highly personal recommendations rather than presenting travel as a checklist of destinations.
